IEEE IUS in Montreal
We just returned from the 2023 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium in Montreal and had a great time visiting colleagues and seeing exciting state-of-the-art developments in ultrasound technology! Lab dinner in Old Montreal. At the Palais des congrès de Montréal. Stephan presenting his 2D forward-viewing IVUS array. Adeoye presenting his guidewire imaging array. … [Read more...]

New paper on multi-frequency guidewire imaging system
Congrats to Graham on his new paper, "Dual-Resonance (16/32 MHz) Piezoelectric Transducer With a Single Electrical Connection for Forward-Viewing Robotic Guidewire," which was just published in the April issue of IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control! This article describes development of a sub-millimeter transducer that can image simultaneously at two frequencies (high resolution and high penetration depth) on the end of a robotically-steered guidewire to allow … [Read more...]
Stephan Strassle Rojas featured on cover of Mar. issue of IEEE T-UFFC
Congrats to Stephan, whose work investigating a system for simultaneous ultrasound and CT imaging of the heart and development of a CT-compatible ultrasound transducer is featured on this month’s cover of IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control. Read the article here . See the cover here. Way to go, Stephan! … [Read more...]
New paper on low frequency contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging
Congrats to Bowen on publication of his new paper, "Very low-frequency radial modulation for deep penetration contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging," in Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology! This article describes a new approach for imaging microbubble contrast agents by perturbing the microbubbles with a frequency much lower than the resonance frequency of the bubble. This technique could be useful in applications where blood flow imaging deep within the body is needed (for example, in abdominal … [Read more...]

Stephan Strassle Rojas wins Best Paper at 2021 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium
Congratulations to Stephan for winning the best student paper competition at the recent virtual 2021 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium! Stephan's paper is entitled: "A thin, high penetration depth phased array transducer with a metamaterial acoustic backing for cardiac imaging with X-ray computed tomography compatibility." Great work, Stephan! … [Read more...]
New paper on catheter-based measurement of blood flow dynamics
Congratulations to Sunny on her new paper on forward-viewing intravascular blood flow imaging, which was recently published in Ultrasonics! This work investigates the effect of the catheter-based measurement device itself on the ability to make accurate intravascular hemodynamic measurements, finding that there is minimum blood flow disruption for a hollow catheter. … [Read more...]
