Congratulations to Stephan! His paper on developing ultrasound transducers with improved X-ray computed tomography (CT)-compatibility was accepted for publication in Medical Physics! This paper describes materials that can be used in ultrasound transducers to allow simultaneous acquisition of ultrasound and CT for cardiac gating and imaging in coronary artery disease. The new array transducer Stephan developed for cardiac imaging using these materials exhibits ~24× improved radiographic compatibility compared to conventional ultrasound transducers. Ultrasound-gated computed tomography coronary angiography is particularly useful to allow older CT systems to safely, accurately image coronary arteries in all patients, regardless of their location in the world or cardiac status (high heart rate, arrhythmia, etc.). Thanks to everyone for their great work on this project including Graham Collins and our collaborator Srini Tridandipani, M.D., Ph.D., at UAB Radiology!
